Junior Kids Karate (beginners, white belts, orange belts)

Junior Kids Karate

Ages 5–8 and beginners up to orange belt

Our Junior Kids class gives younger children a fun, structured introduction to Kyokushin karate. Students develop coordination, fitness and foundational karate skills while learning the routines and behaviour expected in a traditional dojo.

What Students Learn

  • Basic karate techniques and combinations
  • Introductory forms and movement patterns
  • Coordination, balance and body awareness
  • Pad work and age-appropriate fighting drills
  • Non-contact sparring activities for fitness and movement
  • Dojo etiquette, listening skills and class routines

Building Discipline and Confidence

Children learn discipline by following consistent routines, practising dojo etiquette and gradually taking responsibility for their own training.

As students understand the class structure, improve their physical abilities and see their karate skills developing, their confidence grows naturally. This is more meaningful than simply telling children to “be confident”—they gain confidence by becoming genuinely capable.

Structured Training That Is Still Fun

Classes use a mixture of traditional karate practice, partner drills, pad work and games. The goal is to keep younger students engaged while laying the groundwork for more advanced training.

Students who progress quickly in both skill and maturity may be invited to attend Senior Kids classes before turning nine.

Safe, Age-Appropriate Contact

  • New students are not placed directly into contact sparring.
  • Fighting skills are first developed through controlled drills and pad work.
  • Contact is introduced gradually and appropriately.
  • Protective equipment is used when required.
  • Students train under the supervision of experienced instructors.

Required Equipment

Once enrolled, students require:

  • An approved karate uniform
  • Shin guards
  • Karate gloves
  • Mouthguard

Required equipment must be brought to every class. A uniform or protective equipment is not needed for the free trial class.
