This class is for young children (5yrs to 8yrs…ish). This class will focus on laying the groundwork for advanced training, through basic techniques and forms. Non contact sparring for fitness, drills for coordination and occasional contact sparring (with padding).
Students are being trained in the beginners class to understand the fundamentals of how to be a good karateka (karate practioner), and what appropriate behaviour is in a karate dojo. By following established rules (Dojo etiquette) routine each class students will learn discipline. Through consistent practice students will understand the rules of the dojo and gain skills in karate. As they come to understand the rules and routine, and see their skills grow, and become more athletically proficient. As they develop these 3 traits they will gain confidence.
Students will learn the basic requirements of karate through various practice techniques and games to ensure that the classes are fun. Students whose maturity and skill progress quickly may be invited to the senior kids practices prior to turning 9.
All students must purchase approved karatedogi (uniform) shin guards, gloves and mouth guard. These must be brought to every practice.
